The Best Moments of C1

The first mobility of the project "Better Before"

On Sunday, 18th March 2019, 5 students from the Werner-Heisenberg-Gymnasium went together with Mrs Gründler and Mrs Böhmert to the airport in Berlin to fly to Luxembourg concerning the first meeting of the project ‘’Better Before’’. We arrived at half past 8 at the airport in Luxembourg and were fetched by our host families, where we were allowed to stay during the whole week.

On Monday morning, all students and teachers from the partner countries (Greece, Spain, Lithuania and Luxembourg) met at the Lycée Robert Schuman School in the centre of Luxembourg, where we finally encountered all the other students and teachers for the very first time. A boy from Luxembourg called Sharel and the Luxembourgish teacher welcomed us well and all participants got a students’ identification card so we could go by bus or train for free every day if we wanted to.

After that, we had breakfast and went on a sightseeing tour around the city. We saw many attractions, for example the ‘‘Gëlle Fra‘‘, a golden statue from the wartime or the Adolphe-Bridge, from the 20th century.

We returned to the school around lunchtime to have lunch at the Lycée Robert Schuman. At the end of the day, we had a discussion with the artist Mikhail Karikis and a therapist about the impacts of pressure, which was also the theme which the Luxembourgish group focused on, and we were divided into groups of 4 or 5 students to discuss it and at the same time it set the communication between the different countries into motion.

The school day ended around 4pm and we were fetched by our host families again who we spent the rest of the day with.

On Tuesday, we went to the Data Centre where we were clarified of the impacts of using social media and the consequences of posting stuff online. We were allowed for a run through the centre where they explained to us where all data is saved and what they do to keep it safe or even safer.

For lunch we visited another school in Luxembourg where we were also part of a workshop by 2 German women that asked us questions which broached the issue of social media and online relationships.

Thereafter, we headed for going to the Laser Game, where we all had a very great time. It was almost everyone’s first time playing it and we did very well. We were split into 2 teams and fought against each other. Shortly after, we got a certificate.

We again spent time with our host families in the evenings.

On Wednesday, the Luxembourgish group had planned an excursion, which was meant to be a surprise but almost everyone knew about it before. We travelled to France to visit the Zoo in Amneville. Everyone was so excited, because it was the first time going to France for some of the students.

When we were exploring the Zoo, most of us noticed that the cages were really small but they still had very many animals, so we believed that some animals even looked kind of sad. We spent the entire afternoon in France and afterwards we were supposed to go back to our host families.

Thursday was our last day where we were able to spend time with the other partner countries. We went to the CNA to have a conversation with a representative from the Ministry of education. The Luxembourgish group and we as the listeners were allowed to ask questions.

For the ending of this incredible week we went ice skating and ate sushi all together.

On Friday, we summed up the whole week and talked about our conclusions, what we learned during the week, what we got out of the project and what we would do better.

We had lunch again for one last time and then we had to say goodbye. It was a really emotional farewell and some of us even had to cry because we didn’t want to say goodbye and wanted to stay there.

We made so many amazing friendships during the week, we learned to come out of our comfort zone and we even talked to strangers we hadn’t known before.

It was a really great and awesome week for all of us.
